Target Issues Recall on Frozen Burrito Bowl Blend Due to Undeclared Shrimp Allergen

A recent announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has revealed an active recall on certain frozen food products sold at Target stores. This measure has been initiated due to an undisclosed allergen found within the product, posing a potential health risk to consumers with sensitivities.

The specific item under recall is the Good & Gather Burrito Bowl Blend, Southwest-Style, packaged in 12-ounce bags. Consumers can identify the affected products by the UPC “085239931356” and a “best-by” date of “08/24/2026.” Additionally, several lot codes—L5055-1, L5055-2, L5055-3, L5055-4, L5055-5, or L5055-6—are associated with the recalled blend. An estimated 57,240 units of these frozen products have been distributed and sold across all 50 states since April 17, 2025. This recall was prompted by three consumer reports indicating the unexpected presence of shrimp in the product. Individuals with a shellfish allergy could experience severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which manifests with symptoms such as hives, swelling, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, and throat constriction. In such cases, immediate medical attention by calling 911 is recommended. Customers who have purchased this product are urged to check their freezers and either discard the product or return it to any Target store for a full refund. For further inquiries regarding this recall, customers may contact Target Guest Relations.

This incident underscores the critical importance of accurate food labeling and diligent oversight in food production and distribution. It highlights the potential dangers of undeclared allergens and reinforces the need for consumers to remain vigilant and responsive to product recall notifications. Ensuring the safety and well-being of the public necessitates continued adherence to stringent quality control standards and transparent communication from retailers and regulatory bodies alike.
